Video: Reiki Principles
In this precarious time the lives we live seem more fragile than ever. Our aspirations for the future, our freedom our connection with loved ones put on pause. People seem to fall into two groups: those longing to return to the life they lived before and those thankful for a break from all the chaos and distraction of ordinary life. A third mindset opens to us also.
As with any unforseen event that challenges the person we project ourselves as in life, lockdown presents the opportunity to reflect on who we really are. Beneath the roles that we play out in our social circles.
This can be a very challenging confrontation, particularly for those of us who struggle with self-esteem, self-worth and identity. Only made worse by the prospect now of returning to roles which never felt quite right in the first place. Or perhaps once did, but now seem irrelevant for the person and world that has become.
We find ourselves inflicting torture on our minds fuelled by uncertainty directed inwardly and out. I have struggled with lots of challenges and behaviours I have often not understood, and this chance for reflection has unlocked many doors. Some positive some negative but all beneficial.
In this I have found comfort in trying to live in the moment. For me one of the practices which helps me with this is Reiki. For a long time I thought energy healing was a practice which benefited people with a placebo effect. Then one day my mum found solace in the practice, and when she gave me a therapy session I felt the deepest feeling of compassion that touched me beyond all reason.
Placebo or not, the pricipals behind the practice are beautiful. They are the same used for trauma and grief counselling. In the words there are sentiments which can serve us well. So I combine these passions to share these words:
Just for today, I will let go of anger
Just for today, I will not worry
Just for today, I will be grateful for my blessings
Just for today, I will show kindness to myself and all
Just for today, I will be me, with honesty and integrity.
